Steampunk Optical Limiting Boost is a hand-built boost and limiter inspired by the gain-shaping section of the Schaffer-Vega Diversity System.

It combines adjustable input gain, output level, and optical limiting in a compact three-control format, allowing the pedal to work as a clean-ish boost, a more harmonically colored push, or a controlled limiter with added sustain and compression.

Sound

The Pregain control determines how hard the circuit is driven before the limiter stage.

At lower settings, the pedal can stay relatively open and dynamic. Increasing Pregain adds more harmonic coloration and pushes the limiter harder.

The Threshold control determines how readily the optical limiter reacts, allowing the response to move from subtle level control to more audible compression and sustain.

Volume then sets the overall output level, making the pedal useful both as an always-on tone enhancer and as a stronger front-end push into an amplifier or another gain stage.

Controls

Volume — Sets the overall output level.

Pregain — Controls the input level feeding the limiter stage, adding gain, harmonic coloration, and greater compression as it is increased.

Threshold — Sets the operating threshold of the optical limiter, controlling how strongly the signal is constrained and sustained.

Features

  • Schaffer-Vega-inspired boost / limiter circuit
  • Optical limiting for compression and sustain
  • Adjustable input gain
  • Independent output level
  • Three controls: Volume, Pregain, and Threshold
  • Can function as boost, limiter, or always-on tone shaper
  • Hand-built in the Seattle area
  • Individually hand-finished original artwork
  • True bypass switching
  • Standard 9V DC center-negative power
  • Power supply not included

Enclosure / dimensions: 125B / approx. 122 × 66 × 39 mm. Hand-applied artwork and finishing may add slight variation to the final exterior dimensions.

Steampunk Optical Limiting Boost is designed for players who want more than a conventional clean boost — adding level, harmonic character, controlled compression, and sustain in a simple three-control format.

Your pedals are more than just boxes; they're sonic sculptors, crafting the very essence of your sound. To keep them performing at their peak, heed these sacred commandments of pedal care:

The Tenets of Pedal Preservation

  1. Unplug the Beast: Before diving into the cleaning ritual, always disconnect your pedal from the power source. This simple act prevents electrical mishaps and ensures your safety.
  2. A Gentle Wipe: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently caress the pedal's exterior. Remove dust, grime, and the residue of countless gigs.
  3. The Forbidden Liquid: Water, the nemesis of electronics, must be banished from your cleaning routine. Avoid liquid cleaners and moisture at all costs.
  4. The Sacred Knob: When cleaning knobs, rotate them gently, ensuring no debris enters the delicate inner workings.
  5. The Jack's Domain: Utilize a specialized contact cleaner to maintain the integrity of your input and output jacks. A gentle spray and a few rotations will do the trick.
  6. The Power Supply's Purpose: A well-regulated power supply is the lifeblood of your pedalboard. Keep it clean and free from dust, ensuring optimal performance.
  7. The Periodic Purge: Regularly inspect your pedalboard for loose cables, faulty connections, and signs of wear. A well-maintained board is a happy board.
  8. The Holy Grail of Storage: When not in use, store your pedals in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations.
  9. The Forbidden Modding: Unless you're a seasoned electronics wizard, resist the urge to tinker with your pedals' internal circuitry. Leave it to the experts.
  10. The Ritual of Respect: Treat your pedals with reverence. They are the tools of your musical expression, deserving of care and attention.

By adhering to these sacred tenets, you'll ensure that your pedals continue to deliver sonic bliss for years to come.
